Companies in the service sector require a high skill-level. The recent Service sector skill survey shows that there are few jobs available for the uneducated even with pay subsidies. Service Sector Employers Palta, the Finnish Commerce Federation and Finance Finland demand stronger employment measures from the government.

Retail business turnover developed well in 2019. A spike in specialty and department store trade during late summer and autumn sped up the growth. However, the employment rate of the retail sector dropped from last year due to increased efficiency of supply chains and operations as well as automation and international competition, among other things.
The negotiations’ result was achieved last Friday 14 February 2020 in the commercial sector’s collective agreement negotiations. New Collective Agreement for the Commercial Sector is agreed, and it is valid from 1 February 2020 until 31 January 2022.
The Finnish Commerce Federation and the Service Union United PAM reached an agreement on the Collective Agreement for the Commercial Sector today, 14 February. With the agreements, the threat of strikes in the industry is canceled.
