The commerce sector strongly recommends that customers wear masks
The commerce sector wants to offer everyone a safe operating environment, and strongly recommends that customers wear a mask.
On 7 October, the Uusimaa coronavirus coordination group recommended that private entrepreneurs in the Uusimaa region require their customers to wear a face mask. The recommendation also applies to stores and shopping centres.
The commerce sector now strongly recommends that customers wear a face mask in stores, especially in areas where the epidemic is accelerating or spreading.
However, under present legislation, the sector cannot impose an obligation to wear masks. Moreover, some people cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons.
Since the outset of the pandemic, the commerce sector has made great efforts to secure the safety of customers and staff, and the work continues. Official guidelines for preventing the spread of coronavirus are closely monitored. In addition, stores have taken their own measures to secure a safe working and shopping environment.
“It is still safe to go shopping. The mask recommendation is an additional way to ensure this. We hope that consumers want to act responsibly in this challenging situation and wear a face mask when visiting stores. The use of masks is one way to stop the spread of the virus in addition to good hand and coughing hygiene and social distancing,” says Mari Kiviniemi, Managing Director of the Finnish Commerce Federation.
