Cooperation between the Finnish Commerce Federation and Tampere University of Applied Sciences will increase the digital business competence of people working in the commerce sector
The Finnish Commerce Federation and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) are launching a digital business study module that offers employees working in the commerce sector the opportunity to develop their skills through practical courses. The course package will be available in the study selection of the Open University of Applied Sciences.
The change in consumer behaviour and the digitalisation of the commerce sector have dramatically changed the operation of commerce and the related duties and skills needs. Commerce competes with international online stores, which is why investments and versatile study paths are needed for developing the competence in the field. Cooperation with Tampere University of Applied Sciences is an important addition to support continuous learning.
In autumn 2021, the Finnish Commerce Federation, together with five universities, launched a study package for digital business, through which the degree students of the partner universities and the students of the open university will be able to develop their skills in digital commerce. In addition to the university package, people working in the commerce sector will also be able to develop their skills further in the open university of applied sciences.
“We are delighted to be able to extend digital-business-focused education to the open university of applied sciences. The package, which will be launched next year, is aimed at people who are already working in the commerce sector and developing their own competence. The package provides an excellent channel for developing your competence in a practical manner,” says Moona Naakka, Senior Advisor of Education at the Finnish Commerce Federation.
The aim of the package is for students to develop an overall view of digital business that combines practice and theory.
“This package is an excellent addition to the study selection of the TAMK Open University of Applied Sciences where we aim to provide employed people with opportunities for continuous learning through broader study modules. People already working in the commerce sector will have special expertise in responsible e-commerce business, marketing, sales and digital business growth, and will be able to work even better in different commerce work communities as industry developers,” says Satu Kylmälä, Head of Competence Area at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
Studying towards multiple skills in digital business
In autumn 2022, Tampere University of Applied Sciences launched a business administration degree programme that focuses on digital business. The package contains 30 credits and was designed by the Finnish Commerce Federation and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. It was formed by using the courses of the already existing degree programme.
The studies provide an overview of digital business through digital sales and marketing, customer profiling, online business implementation and e-commerce accounting. Additionally, the package includes courses that elaborate on the findability and usability of e-commerce and the international digital business.
“The package has been designed in collaboration so that students can truly delve into the themes of launching and expanding an online business,” Naakka says.
The studies have been designed so that completing them while working is easy. The studies are carried out online, using different teaching methods.
“Virtual implementation ensures that as many people as possible are able to participate in the education. TAMK has a long history of training the employed and we recognise the expertise gained through experience, and different learners,” Kylmälä emphasises.
