Exceptional turn of events in the bargaining agreement negotiations – PAM announced extensive strikes in the trade sector
On Sunday evening, January 22 2023, PAM announced extensive strikes in the trade sector. PAM’s measure is exceptional considering that the collective bargaining agreement negotiations are completely unfinished. Finnish Commerce Federation considers PAM’s actions irresponsible.
The strikes would start in warehouses on Monday 6 February 2023 and continue at other locations in the commerce sector on Thursday 9 February 2023. According to PAM’s announcement, the strike threat applies to more than 185 workplaces, where approximately 20,000 employees work.
The strikes are scheduled according to PAM’s announcement in the following way:
- In 25 warehouses: Monday 6 February at 5 am – Thursday 9 February at 5 am or after the end of the shifts that started before
- At more than 160 other commerce sector’s locations: Thursday 9 February at 5 am – Saturday 11 February 5 am or after the end of the shifts that started before
Strikes do not apply to emergency work or tasks where it would endanger vital activities for society or cause considerable damage to the public interest.
