Despite strikes, commerce takes care of citizens’ everyday life
The Finnish Commerce Federation considers the strikes on trade announced today by the Service Union United PAM to be unfortunate for customers. PAM has announced new, extensive three- to four-day strikes on trade logistics between 14 February and 17 February 2024.
The Service Union United PAM, together with other SAK unions, has announced new political strikes. PAM announces that the latest strikes will target logistics operators in the commerce sector during the period from 14 February to 17 February 2024. In practice, the strike will affect all goods transport in stores.
The stores are trying to prepare for the situation in advance and emphasise that there is no reason to hoard.
“Stores are preparing for the situation with careful foresight, so that the potential inconveniences for citizens remain minor. Food and groceries will not run out in stores during the strike, but individual products may be lacking or the range may be smaller than usual,” says Anna Lavikkala, Labour Market Director at the Finnish Commerce Federation.
According to the Finnish Commerce Federation, the planned political strikes are very unfortunate not only for customers, but also for entrepreneurs, companies and workplaces.
The strikes are political because PAM has announced that it is seeking to influence the labour market reforms of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s government through industrial action.
