Negotiations on the labour market model begin
On Friday, representatives of employers and wage earners launched discussions on the development of an export-driven labour market model. The discussions were convened by the employers’ associations Finnish Commerce Federation, Chemical Industry Federation of Finland, Service Sector Employers Palta, Technology Industry Employers of Finland and Local Government and County Employers.
The launch of the discussion process is based on the wish expressed by Minister of Employment Arto Satonen at the seminar held in early November to the unions that conclude collective agreements to launch discussions on a model of agreement that will strengthen the national economy and promote employment.
In the discussions started today, the current state of the labour market model was reviewed and its development needs were initially discussed. In addition, practical matters related to the completion of the process were agreed. Discussions will continue next week.
According to the representatives of the employers’ associations, the first meeting was constructive and the participants expressed their views on what the future labour market model should be like. In the future, the aim is to concretise the views as quickly as possible.
From the wage earners side, there are five SAK, four STTK and four Akava appointed representatives.
The aim is that information on the outcome of the process would be available to the Minister of Employment in early January. The Minister of Employment has announced that he will summon the labour market partners to review the feedback received during the consultation on the development of the mediation system and the Finnish labour market model. The consultation period on the matter will end on 8 January 2024.
